Mitzvah Day Australia
About Mitzvah Day
Doing good deeds to meet community needs — together.
What is Mitzvah Day
Mitzvah Day was born out of the belief that we can all make a positive difference to our world by taking action – together. On a single day, Mitzvah Day brings together people of all faiths and backgrounds, with the Jewish community, to volunteer side-by-side. For example, on Mitzvah Day participants prepare meals for local shelters, collect resources for refugees, visit care homes, run blood donation drives, community clean ups, the list goes on.
Our partnership with Stand Up: Jewish commitment to a better world
Mitzvah Day Australia is joining forces with Stand Up, as the initiative re-launches on 22 November 2026.
Stand Up’s partnership with Mitzvah Day, is an expression of their strategy which commits to channeling the leadership, values and conviction of the Australian Jewish community into genuine partnership with others, building a more connected, fair and just Australian democracy. Mitzvah Day is one of the most tangible expressions of this mission, creating space for social action, community connection, and leadership, making the fit a natural one.
Our vision
Guided by the Jewish values of Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), Gemilut Chasadim (acts of kindness) and Tzedek (justice), our vision is of Jews and non-Jews coming together to build more cohesive neighbourhoods and to strengthen civil society.
Mitzvah Day is built on the belief that we can all make a positive difference to our world by taking action together.
Mitzvah Day International
Mitzvah Day International was launched in the UK in 2008. Over the years, over 55,000 volunteers from 41 countries have participated in over 2,250 varied social action projects, making a meaningful and long-term difference across a range of compelling causes and charities.
Such was the enthusiasm and uptake here in Australia and New Zealand that in 2025 we had over 20 organisations participate in over 23 projects in Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, Queensland, Tasmania and New Zealand.
